Background : This was just a bar-be-que held by club members as a dig at the Christchurch Fellowship meetings started by the then club secretary. It was felt that the line had been crossed, when the club committee allowed the club secretary to start the group by using club mailing list. Amateur Radio – no politics, no religion. This was a bit of fun and no animosity occur between both groups.
An account of the first meeting of the S.A.T.A.N. sub-group.
In line with many secret societies, nobody there had a surname, and most people didnât want to appear on photographs. (I didnât get to check, but perhaps those people had no reflection in a mirror either ?)
Stopping along the way, to pour some Benzine down the gullet of my mighty steed, I arrived at the Branch 05 club rooms a little later than the designated start time. (Everyone who was anyone, had already arrived, apparently).
Some dude arrived in a car that runs on, well, a bit of this and a bit of that really. The horns aâtop his head glowing so much youâd think they had bulbs in them.
The time for sacrificing lambs and fatted calves was well passed. The flames were already erupting forth upon the altar of Barbecoa. However any folks in search of burnt offerings, would have been disappointed. There were NONE.
It turns out an excellent job had been done, by Shane initially followed by Mike. The offerings were cooked to perfection. Sausages and Meat patties abounded, with bread and salad set aside inside (and ice-cream and Coconut Rice Krispies [thank you Cath] for afters !)
The Sun had not yet set, when a mysterious Mage, (perhaps a denizen from The Dark Place?) came forth bearing a Druidâs Staff.
Mike tried it for size, but the vibrations just werenât right (wrong frequency?), so he gave it back. (Yeah, nar, never get between a Mage and their Magick stick, eh.)
As the night wore on and darkness fully closed in, the conversation ranged widely covering Swords, Hilltop locations for Repeater stations and motorcycles. When I say âmotorcyclesâ I should be clear that it was motorised Couches and Armchairs that could be constructed and used down the Northern Motorway into Christchurch, which were discussed. Johnâs already working on some of the engineering design details.
Thanks to Mike for supplying most of the vittals, and the flammable gas. At my count, 11 people enjoyed the hospitality. And thanks to whoever, provided the ice-creams. Next time if only âInternet Connectivityâ can be added to the group ( âSuperhet. And. Transceiver. Audio. Networkersâ) then it perhaps could become a âS.A.T.A.N.I.C.â meeting?
The date for the next meeting and BBQ has not yet been set, but subject ideas for discussion are being invited. My favourites
Mystery Mage_staff so far are âIs DMR really better than Yaesu Fusionâ and âWhy does the second wife, get all the glory in the story ?â (aka âAdam and Lillith, the early yearsâ). Review by Mel Kisdek
