This new event is the brainchild of Wayne ZL2AYB, to give new hams the chance to experience the fun of a contest, without the pressure of “serious” operator’s judgement! Each new ham was paired with an experienced operator to give guidance. It was held on Saturday 25th October, with most teams ensconced in a cosy shack, except one crazy team (3KB,3KDOT,3DJC) who setup on the port hills, and abided by just one rule – to have fun. Below is a list of Mentors and Contestants:
- Rick ZL3RIK and Martin ZL3MN
- Wayne ZL3WF and Glenn ZL3MTN
- Alan ZL3UYJ and Zealan ZL3YZ
- Kelvin ZL3KB , James ZL3KDOT and Dylan ZL3DJC
Some comments received:
A very enjoyable evening with just the right amount of QSO activity. The non-Branch 05 stations e.g. Glenn ZL2KZ in Wellington contributed greatly. We took ‘time out’ to talk about HF operation such as tuning an SSB signal and the use of Q codes e.g. QRZ and QSL.
