HamCram 13th & 14 October 2018.
I think I have now lost count of the number of HamCrams we have held at clubrooms but this is our third year of running the events. The regularity certainly owes much to the support team of administration, tutors and examiners giving their free time to the cause. I can honestly say it runs like a well oiled machine, but leaves no mess on the carpet.
This time we had eight students, with some of them coming for just the second day, having worked independently with the study guide in the weeks prior to the weekend. This approach was new to us, but still had the immediacy of taking the exam at a predetermined date/time.
The final results showed 100% pass rate, which produced seven new hams (one of our students was already a ham, and came along because she loves listening to us!). We were especially pleased to see our youngest student Thomas Bernard succeed with a good grade at his third attempt, a well deserved pass.
Many thanks to our team, the chief organisers Mike ZL3MWD, Rory ZL3HB and Ian ZL3TAO, while the teaching squad consisted of Richard ZL4FZ, Dave ZL3FJ, Don ZL3DMC, John ZL3TMF and Kelvin ZL3KB, with the Blues Brothers examination team Des ZL3AK and Rob ZL3RX arriving with their brief cases and dark glasses to oversee the examinations.
A great result and good to see the enthusiasm from the students. Since advertising this event at the university, we have been “flooded” with inquiries from engineering students, so we will now be running an extra HamCram before Christmas, which has a better fit with the tertiary timetable. Keep them coming.
